Nick backs Migration Watch Petition
Nick Griffin, MEP has urged everyone to sign an e-petition calling on the Government to take all necessary measures to keep the population below 70 million.
The petition already had 100,000 signatures within the first week showing the strength of public feeling on this issue.
Mr Griffin said: "Latest figures show that our population is likely to reach that 70 million figure in just 16 years. Two thirds of the increase, equivalent to five million people, will come from future immigrants and their children. To put that in perspective, it’s the same as adding five cities the size of Birmingham, or 10 new Bristols or Manchesters.
"If we are to maintain our identity and avoid putting enormous pressure on our public services (like hospitals and schools) and housing we must act now. The Political Class must be forced to listen to the public."
The petition has also won the support of the Nationalist Trade Union Solidarity. Their General Secretary, Pat Harrington, said:
"The campaign to secure a Parliamentary debate on the need for stricter border controls to bring population growth under control is already a success. Any petition which reaches 100,000 must be considered by a committee of MPs for a full debate. We must, however, continue to agitate for the petition. The more people who sign the more pressure will be put on the establishment to take action. I urge you to sign today."
